Wet clothes appear darker because they absorb more light than dry clothes, therefore reflect a lot less light than dry clothes. No w before getting into the why of this let's see what reflection and absorption of light really are. Reflection is the bouncing back of the light, and the light that has not been reflected is said to be absorbed.

As we know clothes are made up of fibers and fibers are made up of microfibres. There are small spaces in these microfibres that let the light pass and reflect. When clothes get wet these spaces are filled with water and thus block the path of light, this, in turn, makes sure that less light is reflected and therefore the clothes appear darker.
