Have you ever lied to your parents, teachers, friends or anyone? For most of us the answer would be a yes, but have you ever wondered why this beautiful brain of ours does this? Well lets try and find an answer to this. There are multiple reasons to lie so lets look at them closely.
We have all lied at least once about not completing our homework so we wouldn’t be punished? Or maybe lied to our friends’ parents when they falsely told them that they were with you and not with someone they weren’t supposed to be? One of the reasons we do it is either to avoid punishment or to prevent another person from being punished and we just saw that in the example here. And surprisingly, its not just kids who do it, its also adults who do this thereby leading to various issues that we better not discuss here.
We also lie to get out of an awkward social situation or even to get admiration from others. Shockingly, one of the reasons one lies is to exercise power over others by controlling the information people have, or in most cases the target has. Hitler, a person no wants to remember because of what he did also lied for this very reason. This is one of the most dangerous reasons of why people lie and is still applied by many leaders and most commonly by narcissists.
To wrap it all up, our brain usually generates a lie to protect us from things like punishment but can also turn evil and not just make one a chronic liar but also a narcissists in some cases.
