When we hear the word ‘art’ some of our minds jump to museums or framed paintings, and in that context some people think that, “ I’m not a big fan of art. I just don't get it” or they think of art as something that's just for intellectuals or artsy people. But really art is for anyone who wants to experience it and it's often in more places than we realize. Songs you like, movies you watch, poems you read, theatre, even a quilt that your grandmother made. All of that and more is art. The art of birth, the art of a human body and the way it moves. Hell, even every scar in your body is art.
Doesn’t that make you wonder, “Well then what is art? How do I define it?”. But that's tough question to answer, because art has been around for thousands of years. The ages it's evolved in a number of different ways. The reasons for creating it vary from person to person, depending on a number of factors. Defining art is very tricky and that’s something that has been debated throughout history and no one seems to have an agreed-upon definition.
However, many believe that art is anything that stirs emotions in you. Now, the emotions that get stirred depend entirely on your history, your story, and everything that comes together to make up who you are. Because of these factors different people can experience the same piece of art and have wildly different reactions to it. One person might think it's the most beautiful thing they've ever seen. The second person might hate it, and the third might not feel much of anything at all. And none of them would be wrong?
Everyone's entitled to their own preferences and feelings. When it comes to art, the way you feel about, your favourite song, could be the same way that someone else feels about their favourite sculpture, and even though you might not like that sculpture it can be valuable, why that person enjoys it so much? You may learn something about them and maybe even yourself.
The term arts are really just a label, over the years a lot of people have tried to classify what it is or what it isn't but, that's not really what art is about. It is about our personal experience with it and the meaning that you give it while you make it and from that everyone reacts to art differently and that has the potential to grow and learn. Art also gives us the opportunity to tell stories record history and tap into our emotions in a way that few other things can’t seem to do.
We all should know that nothing is perfect in this world. The society seems to set up these standards for us to think a certain something is perfect and that what beauty is, but when we can’t even define and classify art, cause art can be an ugly thing yet we would praise it to be the number one, it can just be a splatter of red and yet it means too much of a worth. I would just people don’t know how to see things. But then how can we say something is perfect? When we actually don’t know what it is in the first place. Right? ……… right.
