People have a lot of irrational fears that are undiagnosable, like the fear of the number 13 (Triskaidekaphobia), the fear of math or numbers (Arithmophobia), the fear of sleep (Somniphobia), the fear of being without a mobile phone (Nomophobia), but the one we are going to discuss today requires a person to pay attention to details, it is the fear of palindromes.
The question now is, What is a palindrome?? A palindrome is a word, phrase, or sentence that reads the same, both forwards and backward. Examples can be words like Anna or Madam or Mom and phrases like Top spot or Dammit, I'm Mad.
Now, why did I say that this phobia requires a person to pay attention to details?? This is because of the fact that palindromes are not easy to find, and that is why there is a whole branch of study devoted to finding and understanding palindromes. The people who study palindromes are called Palindromists.
This is one of the most irrational phobias that exist, many psychologists have said that this phobia does not exist. As mentioned above a person will have to see minute details to find a palindrome, average people like us cannot find a palindrome with just a glance at a sentence until we are used to doing that. On the other hand, people who pay very close attention to things like Sherlock Holmes will be able to find a palindrome very quickly.
There are no causes for this phobia because it is undiagnosable as of now, but probably in a few hundred years, we will have a way to diagnose this issue. But if you feel you are suffering from this phobia then here is a trick, do not pay attention to details, if you are not able to see any palindromes, you will not be scared anymore.
The name of this phobia is aibohphobia. This is funny because if you see closely Aibohphobia is a palindrome.
