Is your tummy craving for a bite of samosa dipped in the scarlet-colored ketchup made from fresh-to-home tomatoes? Samosa has its renowned name in the chat world. For years, people praise crispy little samosas dumped with onions and sprinkled with masalas. There is a plethora of variety in the market: from the ones sealed with turmeric and mashed potatoes to those stuffed with minced meat nourished with Indian spices. A common misconception is that it originated in India. I am sure that you won’t believe that it all originated in Iran. But, it’s the truth. Now, I guess all folks reading this blog would be looking back at the timeline of samosas. Come on friends, let’s ponder.

A hegira from Iran to the entire globe was made by samosas which is never an easy job. They have an everlasting history from the 10th century. The different variants of samosas depict a new culture and a new generation embedded into them. This gives an insight that samosas are liked by a gargantuan number of people.

Samosas were first made in Iran in the 10th century which were called ‘Sambosa’. The main motive of this invention was to benefit the travelers. The miniature and compact samosas appealed to the travelers as they were easy to carry along.

Even though we have no evidence about the first cook who prepared them, it is evident that they were brought up to the world by the use of literature in the 11th century. It was described as a lavish or a sumptuous snack filled with finely minced meat sprinkled with spices and the essence of fruits and nuts which royals grasped.

Everything from the filling to the texture has changed, the only identity that has passed generations was their shape. Historically, they were served on festive occasions to the royalty. However, now they are eaten by everyone from laymen to merchants as a daily snack.

Another group that was benefited in the history by this marvelous starter was farmers. They carried them to the fields for a convenient snack.

Potatoes were used as a filling in samosa only when the Portuguese brought them from the USA in the 16th century. Now, it is one of the common vegetarian delights used in samosa.

Moreover, the database for the fillings used in samosas has expanded. Nowadays, everything from meat to vegetables is used. Samosas were used to be preferred as a savory treat. However, now even chocolate samosas have come into play. Yes, believe me, they are also one of the leading samosa varieties for sweet lovers. Samosas dumped with cheese, mayonnaise, and butter are invented for the evolving taste buds of the modern generation.
